Whistling Past the Graveyard: Rate-A-Record at the Cemetery Gates

Two songs that are definitely not the same

I realized last night, as I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole of songs by Paramore (don’t ask) that I’ve done two Sunday Rate-A-Record’s so far this month and neither had even a remotely Halloween theme. Determined to correct that, I fell down a completely different YouTube rabbit hole: I journeyed through a pile of pop punk songs (after all the Paramore, that’s no surprise), saw Bruce playing “Born to Run” with the Killers at Madison Square Garden from a couple weeks ago, landed somehow on an interview where Father Mike Schmitz (of “The Bible in a Year” podcast fame) explained how close he came to getting married before becoming a priest, and crashed at a Selena Gomez song about ghosts.

I might still be trapped in the alternate universe that is YouTube had I not, around 2:00 a.m., been forced to ask myself a question: was that a gunshot? It was, though since I live in a sketchy neighborhood in a large Texas city it was not a surprise. I waited to see if there would be return fire (there was not), shook my head, and went back to YouTube, thinking that I live among cowboys from hell.

Wait…

Cowboys from Hell.
