Last month I published the story “When You Want to Study the Bible But Don’t Know How to Start.” I didn’t really intend for it to be the first of a two-part series but when I was done, I had explained some of the tools you need in order to study the Bible without ever discussing any actual Bible study methods. Oops. The original article is below, and after that I correct my glaring omission.

First, in case you’ve already read the first article or for some inexplicable reason have chosen not to, let me recap the difference between simply reading the Bible and studying it. With reading the Bible, you are doing just that, reading, perhaps for devotional purposes or even simply pleasure. You will learn much by simply doing this, even if not intentionally. With Bible study, you are purposely going deeper to try to understand what you are reading even more.
