Two Awesome 1980s Bands That Should Have Been Bigger

I love them and you should too

Lest you think that I listen to nothing but Springsteen, today’s Rate-A-Record will not include a single reference to “Born to Run,” even though it is without a doubt The Greatest Song Ever. Instead, today I take you back to my misspent youth (as opposed to my continuing misspent adulthood) and give you two bands from the glorious 1980s that should have been much more famous than they ultimately were.

When people think about the great bands of the ’80s, the names that immediately come to mind are giants like Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Prince, along with bands like Def Leppard, Duran Duran, and Journey. Those more inclined to specific genres may recall AC/DC, Motley Crue, New Order, The Smiths, and the Go-Go’s. However, few besides hardcore fans would mention The Cult or Cinderella in their top ten, and that’s a shame.

I won’t write a long piece here defending these two bands, because their music speaks for itself, even nearly 40 years later. My only advice is that you turn the volume up as loud as it will go (or for some of us Gen Xers, as loud as we can stand anymore).
