Today Marks Six Years Since I Last Saw Bruce Springsteen in Concert and That is Entirely Too Long

It’s a bittersweet anniversary

I have always remembered dates that some would consider odd to recall. For example, I know that Ernest Hemingway died on July 2, 1961 and that Jim Morrison died on July 3, 1971. I know that George Harrison married Pattie Boyd on January 21, 1966 (the same day I was born) and that Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait on August 2, 1990, starting the First Gulf War and prompting me to join the Army.

Given that I recall these random dates while having no clue what I had for lunch yesterday, it will come as no surprise that I would remember key Bruce Springsteen-related dates: November 22, 1984, the night I first saw him in concert, which I wrote about in “The Night That Changed My Life Forever;” June 18, 2011, the day that Clarence “Big Man” Clemons passed away; and of course September 23, 1949, the birthday of that other savior (the one from New Jersey) who led a ragtag group of apostles to the promised land.

Well, as I type this just after midnight on April 5, I know without having to Google it that it was exactly six years ago that I last saw Bruce and the E Street Band in concert, during The River anniversary tour. I never thought that a Springsteen show could come close to that first…
