Throwback Thursday: The Joy of Re-Reading Your Favorite Books
Why bother with something new?
It’s the first Thursday of September, which means it’s time again for Throwback Thursday, the recurring piece that refuses to die almost as resolutely as my Rate-A-Record stories. Today’s look back at one of my stories that has fallen into the abyss (the ultimate fate of all writing on the internet) is either wonderfully serendipitous or woefully meta, I’m not sure which. Either way, it’s about reading something you’ve read before.
I was inspired to dig up the story below after re-reading The Shadow of the Wind last night. I have a stack of books I’ve never read sitting on my nightstand, threatening to collapse under its own weight and bury one of my cats, yet I was reading a novel that I have re-read every year since 2005. My original plan was to write a piece about the sheer joy of re-reading our favorite books, but I remembered that I had done just that last year.
Fortunately, it’s a Thursday, which allows me to flog this ongoing attempt to breathe life into forgotten…
