Longtime readers of my ramblings are well aware of my semi-regular attempts to turn attention to one of my older stories through the Throwback Thursday article. I’ve been publishing these on random Thursdays for the better part of four years now, more out of sheer stubbornness than because they actually generate that many additional reads. In fact, the only one that has really found a second life through a Throwback Thursday piece is one I wrote about the ongoing assault rifle debate in the United States, which says something about the state of our society right now.

I have moved away from Throwback Thursday stories over the past few months, though not necessarily because my stubbornness has waned; since my stepfather passed away in April, I haven’t been writing much at all, at least in comparison to my normal output. As regular readers will have noticed, I’ve kept mainly to the weekly Rate-A-Record installment and my thoughts on our new pope, Leo XIV (watch for more about him soon).

However, in the process of getting back in the writing groove, I have decided to resurrect the exercise in futility that is the Throwback Thursday article, this time with one I wrote just a few months into my time on this site. It’s about a film genre…
