Throwback Thursday: ‘Love Actually’ is Actually the Worst Movie Love Story Ever Made
Don’t let this film be your Valentine’s Day guide
I am not a Valentine’s kind of guy; I am, however, very much a get views on an old story kind of guy. Thus, my first Throwback Thursday article of the month has a Valentine’s theme, just as the piece from last year I’m highlighting did.
It was one of those wonderful Thunderdome smackdown contests that I hope Eric Pierce will bring back to Fanfare someday soon. The question was “what is the worst movie love story ever,” and while I think Simon Dillon won with his review of Anakin and Padme’s cringeworthy relationship in the Star Wars prequels, I still think Love Actually is the worst ever made.
There is no other film I can think of with so many bad romantic subplots, so many that I had to rate the nine of them (yes, nine) based on a “number of restraining orders” scale rather than simply stars or numbers. It was also a chance to take a film I actually like (and watch every Christmas) and poke it with a stick.
Check out the original article below, and do your best not to emulate any of these relationships. You will actually regret it.
