Throwback Thursday: Ignore Rotten Tomatoes and Get Your Film Recommendations from a Saint
The Vatican’s list of 45 films everyone should see
At the start of every new year, I become an optimist (or at least as much of one as it’s possible for a grumpy old man like me to be). Each January, I firmly believe things I know are unlikely to happen: Arsenal will win the Premier League, the Dallas Cowboys will win a playoff game, Kate Beckinsale will cancel the restraining order, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will play a six-hour show at my birthday party. Since my birthday is January 21st, my semi-optimism is always shattered early on.

Though I have countless examples to the contrary, I flip the page on the calendar believing that this will finally be the year that such an article will resurrect one of my older stories from the abyss to be read by millions (or at least five or six) people who either missed it the first time or weren’t on Medium when it was first published.
To kick off 2025, I’m combining two things that I hope will help Throwback Thursday finally work: a story about movies with a spiritual twist. If you click on the link below…
