When I resurrected the sometimes popular, sometimes ignored Throwback Thursday feature earlier this month, it was a rainy day here in the Great State of Confusion better known as Texas. Either because of a wonderful case of serendipity or (more likely) because it’s springtime, it is once again raining on a Thursday, and I take that as a sign from the writing gods that I should use the day to feature an older story that has fallen into the abyss that is the internet. The only question was which of my 1,000-plus ramblings to subject longtime readers to again while introducing it to a new audience as well.

My first thought was a Springsteen story; I haven’t written enough about the Bard of the Garden State and there are still, shockingly, people out there unaware that “Born to Run” is The Greatest Song Ever. Sadly, I recently reviewed Darkness on the Edge of Town and it’s too soon for another Bruce-centric tale.

My next thought was to use the whole Throwback Thursday motif to set right several wrongs that occurred during the glorious run of the Fanfare publication’s Thunderdome debate series. The two most notable were crushing defeats for my defense of Scooby-Doo as the
