Three Reasons ‘The Godfather’ is Absolutely a Christmas Movie
It’s a holiday classic you can’t refuse
A few nights ago I watched the excellent The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (I highly recommend it; it’s my favorite Guardians installment so far). It’s only 45 minutes long, so when it was over I went looking for another holiday movie since I was already in that frame of mind. I stopped on an old favorite, the classic Bruce Willis action flick Die Hard, at which point my always helpful son-in-law immediately commented: “It’s not a Christmas movie.” Of course it’s a Christmas movie, but I wasn’t going to be baited into another debate about that. We finally agreed on John Wick, which is definitely not a Christmas movie.
Late that night, however, I thought of another classic that most people wouldn’t consider a Christmas movie, but that absolutely is. I debated with myself about whether I should actually write about it, knowing that at the very least it could cause Simon Dillon to put coal in my stocking on Christmas. In the end I decided it was worth the risk.
