This Is Not My Normal Sunday Rant

This time it’s politically personal

Other than the occasional open letter to the idiot governor of Texas, I tend to avoid political topics on this site. I get enough trolls on my history articles, and if they’ll fight me over the fact that all the secession documents of the states that became the Confederacy started with a defense of slavery (which is historically verifiable), they’ll fight me on anything. Eventually your hand starts to cramp from blocking morons.

But as I was narrowing down the things that pissed me off this week (and deciding whether my morning coffee required a whisper of Bailey’s or a double shot of Jack Daniels), I surrendered to the idea that today’s Sunday rant would indeed get political, would have several topics, and would be more rambling than previous ones. So, to quote Steve Rogers in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, “Before we get started, does anyone want to get out?”

Still here? Then let’s begin.

To begin with, I’m pissed that this first thing is “political” at all; for some stupid reason I consider medical science to be science, not politics, but then I’m just a grumpy old bastard who the youngsters consider “ready for the urn.” If you’re following the latest spike in COVID-19 cases around the country, you know that the latest battleground is over…
