The Year of Bruce: A Look Back at My Top Five Springsteen Stories of 2022
In one way at least, it was a very good year
In a recent article, I wrote that if I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life it would be Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to which noted philosopher Simon Dillon commented the following:
“I think we are now at a kind of collective consciousness saturation point, where all human beings, including those dead, alive, and yet to be born, are all instinctively aware of this fact.”
A funny line to be sure, but I’m not convinced that it’s true. Until I am 100% certain that my love for the song, the album it anchors, and the man himself is as firmly entrenched in the global consciousness as the fact that Lionel Messi is the greatest soccer player to ever live, I will continue to spread the Gospel of Bruce.
As part of that evangelism, and because I’ve been here long enough to do annual year-end segments, here is my second annual “The Year in Springsteen” article, in which I share the top five Springsteen stories (by total number of views) I wrote over the past 12 months. In a bit of serendipity, the story that comes in at #5 is about the very goal mentioned above.
