The Songs Bruce Springsteen Gave Away

With a little Rate-A-Record thrown in at the end

A few days ago, Alex Markham published an intriguing article about songs Lennon & McCartney wrote but never recorded, either as part of The Beatles or as solo artists; they simply gave the songs away. It was not only interesting hearing the songs as they were recorded by other artists, but also wondering how they might have sounded if John and Paul had pulled in George and Ringo and released the songs themselves. There are some surprises in the piece as well; check it out below.

After reading it, I started wondering about all the songs Bruce Springsteen has given away over his long career (don’t act shocked; you already know that eating a grilled cheese sandwich will make me start wondering about Springsteen songs). As I went through the list, three distinct categories emerged; let’s look at them.
