The Eight TV Shows I Want If I’m Stranded on a Desert Island
This prompt is getting out of hand
I blame Alex Markham. Back in the spring of 2022, I was perfectly happy never having given a thought to the things I would take to a desert island and definitely not narrowing that down to ten or fewer of those things. Then, on May 20, 2022 (a day which will live in infamy), he published the prompt “8 Songs For A Desert Island” and my life was turned upside down. Not since Terry Barr innocently published a story called Rate-A-Record have I been drawn into a prompt for such an extended period.
Since reading Alex’s prompt more than two years ago, I have written about the songs I would take with me, the songs I definitely would not, the books I’d take, the Bible books I’d bring (assuming my Bible came apart, I guess), and most recently the films I would bring. I thought that was finally it, even after a comment exchange with notorious troublemaker Buddy Gott in which we discussed the need to add television shows to the mix. I forgot about it until he informed me that Plethora of Pop writer Candace Estelle had beaten us both to it.
Since then, Buddy has published his own response to the prompt and Paula Shablo has done one as well. As I am far too weak to avoid this much peer pressure regarding a prompt, I have temporarily set aside yet…
