The Divine Musical Genre I Have Inexplicably Overlooked on Rate-A-Record

How did I miss this one?

Looking back over the 54 previous Rate-A-Record stories I’ve done, two things stood out: 1) I can’t believe I’ve done 54 Rate-A-Record stories and 2) though I often publish these on Sundays, there is one musical genre whose absence is glaring. For installment #55, I will correct that.

Just to recap a bit, my Rate-A-Record stories have covered Springsteen, classic rock, Springsteen, metal, Springsteen, country, Springsteen, soundtracks, and Springsteen. Themes have included the World Cup, Marvel movies, holidays like Christmas and Halloween, and even wonderfully inappropriate funeral songs. What I’ve not yet covered (given the usual Sunday publication time) is worship songs.

I saw that eye-roll from some of you, and all I can say is stop it. As your penance, you need to read the Faith Song Championship article by Francis B. and cast your vote there.

When I say worship songs, I am not talking about music from the Contemporary Christian genre; there are great songs there as well, but too often you have to cull through a lot of dreck to find it. Worship songs are the kind you would hear if you went to church this morning instead of cursing the TV while watching Meet the Press and nursing a hangover. Well, not…
