The Bible is Many Things, But a Science Textbook Isn’t One of Them
And it’s not intended to be
In my quest for topics to expound upon for your entertainment and enlightenment, I often fall deep into rabbit holes on the internet. To be honest, I fall into the same rabbit holes looking for cat videos, but that’s another story. One of those recent tumbles introduced me to an organization I will not name solely because I am choosing not to give them any publicity whatsoever; let’s just call them the Institute.
The Institute claims to be dedicated to increasing the study of the Bible, which would seem on its face to be something I would totally support. I have both a high regard and great interest in the Bible, so I looked further into what they are all about, expecting something akin to a seminary or parachurch ministry. I was quite surprised, then, when I read their mission statement:
“Our mission is to educate the general public about the value and importance of reading the Bible and using it as the primary textbook for knowledge and study. Its purpose is to broaden perspective of the Bible from what is commonly thought of as a textbook used in Sunday school, to a scientific text on all subject matter.”
