Ten Songs to Help You Keep Your Cool

If you must

I’ll admit it: I’m feeling a little bad about responding to the beat-the-heat piece by Mark Holburn (“Ten Songs from My Playlist To Cool the UK Down”) with one specifically designed to make you even hotter. I was fine until Pierce McIntyre jumped in with his “Cool Songs for Cool People” piece; did my response mean I wasn’t cool? Was I ever cool?

I found myself both in an existential crisis and unable to get songs related to the cold out of my head. Since this is no way to live, I have bowed to the pressure and will give you some of my favorite songs that will help you keep your cool through this abnormally brutal summer.

Because I am still me, however, I have tried my best to find the least uplifting “cool” songs possible. You might not get overheated listening to them, but you won’t win a Nobel Peace Prize either. Life goes that way sometimes.

The songs below all mention cold, ice, and other wintry-type things, and while they won’t fix a busted air conditioner, they just might make your heart a tad bit frostier. You’re welcome.

1. “Cold Shot” by Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble.
