Seven Ways to Spice Up the Star Wars Franchise Before It’s Too Late
These may be our only hope
Eric Pierce recently wrote two excellent articles lamenting the sad, stale state of the Star Wars franchise that I have been thinking about ever since. Why, with the ability to lure in the best writing talent on the planet, are they still just retelling the same stories, over and over, ad infinitum, ad nauseum? Was there a Constitutional amendment I’m unaware of that says every new Star Wars project must tie back in some way to Luke Skywalker and his Chanel boots?
Let’s look at this logically; there are potentially hundreds of trillions of people living in the Star Wars Cinematic Universe (I’m borrowing the “cinematic universe” tag because, like with Marvel, there are many more worlds and storylines explored in the Star Wars novels, even if Disney likes to vacillate over whether or not these stories are canon). What do they do all day?
These new stories don’t have to be groundbreaking, but they should at least be different from what we’ve seen for the past 45 years. And they should be fun. So here are a few genres that can spice up the Star Wars…
