Two years ago (almost to the day), I wrote a story about my time owning an independent bookstore back in 2016 and 2017. I ended that piece by saying that despite the fact that the bookstore dream died after only a year in business, even knowing how things ultimately turned out I not only would still do it, I just might again. Here’s that story if you’ve never read it:

Not quite a year after writing that article, I wrote one with a very different perspective. Maybe because I had recently celebrated yet another birthday without either Springsteen or Kate Beckinsale showing up for my party, I wrote that I actually didn’t want to own a bookstore again. What I really wanted was an incredible personal library: all the books, none of the customers.
