Rate-A-Record (Cartoon Cover Edition): What Score Would You Give These Two Songs?

A Plethora of Pop Series

When I wrote my reply to a challenge from Terry Barr called “Rate-A-Record” last month, I thought I was done with the prompt. Then Pierce McIntyre decided to up the ante today by publishing one that was Muppet-themed. That’s a challenge I cannot ignore.

I’m not going the Muppet route however, as my brain immediately ran down roughly 75 different rabbit trails. Instead, I give you two classic cartoon songs covered by rock bands. I will admit at the outset that both cartoons are from my youth, so some of you more seasoned readers may judge them in comparison to the original while younger readers will judge them solely on their own merits. I did a little of both.

In case you haven’t read any of the earlier entries, Terry based the challenge on the American Bandstand segment “Rate-A-Record.” The concept was fairly straightforward: a panel of teens listened to two songs and rated each one on a numeric scale between, for some odd reason, 35 and 98. You do the same here.
