Papal infallibility is actually a commonly misunderstood thing. The pope's comments and even writings are not considered infallible unless they are specifically declared as such. This has only happened twice in the past 200 years and both were related to the Virgin Mary: the Immaculate Conception of Mary (1854) and the Assumption of Mary (1950). As to whether even Catholics believe it, that will vary from person to person.
