My Favorite Song from Each of The Beatles’ Twelve Studio Albums
This one was tough
It may surprise some readers that from about the age of 12 to 14 there was a band I listened to more than Bruce Springsteen (yes, this was even after the release of Born to Run). What should not be a surprise is that the band was The Beatles; I think everyone goes through a period of discovering the lads from Liverpool for themselves, and I was no exception.
I’ve been thinking about The Beatles the past few days after reading a piece by Buddy Gott celebrating Paul McCartney’s 82nd birthday. Buddy listed his favorite McCartney song from each Beatles album, and while I agree with many of his choices, I realized that if you include all four Beatles in the exercise, my list would look quite different. This was a surprise in itself, since I have always liked Paul the most (and not just because we share a first name).
I considered skipping this article (it isn’t part of a challenge, after all), mainly because choosing my favorite Beatles song from a particular album can be as tough as choosing my favorite Springsteen song that’s not “Born to Run.” This is especially true for what I consider their two best albums, Rubber Soul and Revolver. I’m going to give it a go anyway, if only so I can regret my choices by tomorrow morning.
