The new millennium started with a bang

We’ve reached the new millennium in my series of favorite films from every year I’ve been walking this big blue rock, and it’s only getting tougher to choose a favorite for some of these years. As you will see from the number of honorable mentions that show up this time, there were some years in the 2000s where the choice was agonizingly difficult (in some cases, my pick changed back and forth multiple times). 2000 was brutal, and 2008 simply was not fair.

Still, I have no one to blame but myself (just as several other writers here are blaming me for dragging them into this exercise); I know that Simon Dillon, and Eric Pierce have stories out there already, so be sure to check them out. For all my complaining, it’s been a fun experience (so far, at least).

As always, I want to make clear that this is a list of my favorite films for each year of the 2000s. Sometimes the pick will also be the one I consider the greatest from that year, but just as often it won’t. A few commenters seem to have missed this point.

Now on to the films.

2000: High Fidelity. This was easily the hardest year to pick a favorite for in the 2000s. Just take a peek at the honorable…
