My Favorite Bruce Springsteen Live Covers of Ten Classic Songs

It’s not breaking news that I could write about Springsteen every day, but even I sometimes have trouble finding just the right topic. I could tell you the number of times he played live with the late, great Chuck Berry, but you surely already know the answer is two. I could argue that his cameo in High Fidelity deserved a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, but since the Academy is biased against both talent and New Jersey, there’s not much point.

So there I was, stumped, with only two days left in the month and needing one more Bruce piece to close June out strong. Then I remembered a recent story by Terry Barr (who deserves to be called The Professor as much as Roy Bittan), and I had my inspiration. In that piece, he recounted hearing Bruce play the Creedence Clearwater Revival song “Who’ll Stop the Rain,” calling it the best live cover he ever heard. You should read the whole thing below:
