Mark Cuban Has a Solution for the Insane Cost of Prescription Drugs

Politicians have been debating ways to address the obscenely high cost of prescription drugs in the United States for decades, and as is usually the case when politicians are the driving force behind anything, nothing has been accomplished. But what if a guy who exactly 40 years ago was tending bar in Dallas and is now the billionaire owner of an NBA team got involved? That is exactly what happened with Mark Cuban and his new online pharmacy, the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company.

According to an interview with PBS NewsHour, for the past several years the Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank investor has been working with Dr. Alex Oshmyansky to come up with a solution to bring both price sanity and transparency to an industry which currently has neither. Why would he go this route rather than into some other entrepreneurial venture? Here’s his answer from the interview:

“It’s just wrong that people have to choose between eating [or] their rent and taking their medications in the United States of America in 2022. It’s just wrong. And it was obvious there was not going to be a political solution.”

So what is his solution? In a nutshell, his company buys huge quantities of drugs that are in high demand…
