It gets even weirder than that across the South. There are counties where you can buy beer and wine but not liquor, and others where you can buy liquor but not beer. And most restaurants can sell alcohol by the drink even in “dry” counties. Here, it’s a remnant of Baptist control of the state; drinking leads to sex, which looks too much like dancing for the Baptists to be comfortable :)
