Inappropriate Funeral Songs: A Deathly Installment of Rate-A-Record

We’ve all got to go sometime

About a year ago I shared my ultimate send-off soundtrack, otherwise known as the songs that must be played at my wake/funeral. For this week’s installment of Rate-A-Record, I’m returning to that theme, because it’s never a bad time to be talking about death.

Ok, there are probably a few times that such a conversation would be inappropriate; during a wedding ceremony, your kid’s first birthday party, and the middle of Springsteen concert are a few likely examples. But on the whole, it’s something we should all be better prepared for, since studies show that one out of every one person will, at some point, no longer be alive.

In the interest of full disclosure, November is the month in the Catholic Church that is dedicated to the souls in Purgatory, so I’ve been getting a fair number of death-related homilies at Mass as well. I’m just passing the joy along to everyone here.

Today’s Rate-A-Record theme is a simple one: songs that might, by some uptight sorts, be considered inappropriate for a funeral. I give you three, and as always after listening to each song, rate them in the comments using the Terry Barr/American Bandstand scale of 35 to 98.
