Back in January 2023, I published a Rate-A-Record story titled “Heavy Metal Meets Mayberry: A Rural Rescue Rate-A-Record.” It highlighted how, after nearly a month stuck in East Texas while my mom was in the hospital, I needed a break from the constant “stadium country” music everyone was playing, a break that only metal could provide.

That was after one month; I’ve now been here for the better part of a year and a half and am in the process of moving here permanently (you can read more about this in my Mayberry Chronicles). As you can imagine, though I do love classic country, the occasional need for something that rattles my bones and makes my ears bleed is a real thing. Thus, for the first Rate-A-Record installment of May, I give you Part 2 of Heavy Metal meets Mayberry.

I have attempted to choose songs appropriate to the region/situation, so as much as I would like to include them, incredible metal songs like “Iron Man,” “Breaking the Law,” and “Enter Sandman” don’t really fit. If I hadn’t used “Crazy Train” and “Welcome to the Jungle” in the earlier story they would definitely be here, but that ship has sailed.
