So there I was, minding my own business and doing a little research for a new series I’m starting when I was notified that Buddy Gott had published a new installment for the “Pick a Letter Song Challenge.” Most people who answered this prompt when it first appeared chose one letter and left it at that (I did two, with one dedicated solely to Springsteen). Buddy, however, decided he needed to cover the whole alphabet, and is currently on the letters K and L.

Normally, when Buddy either issues or answers a challenge, my plans for the day are completely derailed because I cannot resist writing one as well (we are both 1966 models, 1984 grads, and often share a brain). Since I have no intention of doing another letter for this prompt, I figured I could read his story with no worries of it screwing up my writing plans for the day.

I figured wrong, and not because I was tempted to take on that prompt again. No, having included “Kiss Me Deadly” in his story, he tempted me with someone I’ve been unable to resist for nearly 40 years: Lita Ford. And once I started thinking about Lita, I naturally began thinking about some of my favorite female bands/singers of the glorious 1980s. I briefly hoped that simply playing Joan Jett’s greatest hits on repeat would be enough…
