For me, when a band loses their original (or most famous) frontman, it's just not the same (see Van Halen without David Lee Roth). There are exceptions though; Rainbow was great both with Ronnie James Dio and Joe Lynn Turner, and AC/DC was great with Bon Scott and Brian Johnson.
