Five Times the Hit Title Track Was Not the Best Song on a Classic Album

When you think of classic albums, often the first song that comes to mind is the title track. This is understandable, since the title track is usually the first single released and many times becomes the album’s biggest hit. Obviously, there are an equal number of times where the title of an album is different than the title of any of the songs, as with Led Zeppelin and their ultra-creative numbering system, but that’s a story for another day.
A lot of the time the title track is the best song on the album; in the case of Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” it’s the Greatest Song Ever. But just as often, an excellent title track overshadows an even better song buried deeper on the album. For this week’s Rate-A-Record I give you five that are, in my opinion, far better songs than the title track of the album:
