Local libraries and local bookstores coexist in an important literary ecosystem; most children develop a love of reading at their local library, which often translates to a love of independent bookstores as they grow up. As much as we love supporting those indie bookstores, however, few of us can afford to purchase every new book we want. This is where the Friends of the Library can be immensely beneficial.

You can help your local library and get great deals on books in the process by supporting the annual book sale held by the Friends of the Library organization in your town. If you happen to live in a large metropolitan area, there is the added bonus of multiple sales every year, since each city has their own Friends of the Library chapter. At these sales you can find books, sometimes in like-new condition, at prices even lower than at the average garage sale.

The majority of these sales were cancelled in 2020 and 2021, for an obvious reason; the Coronavirus lockdown cancelled almost everything. But by 2022 they returned with a vengeance, much to the delight of book lovers everywhere. Let’s look at how to get the most out of them.
