Bowling for Soup: The Texas Band You Need to Know

A Lone Star Rate-A-Record

My daughter informed me yesterday that the classic cartoon Phineas and Ferb is returning with two full, 20-episode seasons and I was more excited about it than someone in their 50s probably should be. In my defense, it is both one of the best cartoons since the original, pre-Scrappy Scooby-Doo Where Are You! (a series I right declared the best cartoon ever here) and a show I watched with my daughters in those glorious days before they became teenagers.

You may be wondering what any of that trip down memory lane has to do with Rate-A-Record, the cultural phenomenon that is sweeping the nation and will soon be more famous than all of the Kardashians combined. It triggered this week’s Rate-A-Record simply because a hugely underrated Texas band with an awesome name performs the theme song for Phineas and Ferb; that band is Bowling for Soup. I say underrated even though they had some fairly big hits in the early 2000s because most people still don’t know who they are nearly 30 years after their founding in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The three songs below are among their best known, and I picked them to see how many of you say “oh yeah, I know those guys” after listening.

“Girl All the Bad Guys Want”
