Beautifully written reflection on your experience with the symbol of the cross. Growing up Catholic, one of my first questions as a kid was when/if I was going to have to take my turn on the crucifix at the front of the church. I managed to recover from that mild trauma, and still have one above my desk (though mine is only about 12 inches).
