A Look Back at Five of My Early Stories You May Have Missed

A year later, these might have gotten lost in the shuffle

Four days ago, I reached the milestone of one year writing on this site. At the end of that first month I had published six stories and had 11 followers (two of them were family members and at least half of the rest were bots); as I write this today, I have published 503 stories and have over 3K followers, for which I am extremely grateful. One thing that is clear, however, is that some of my favorite (and I think best) stories from those early days simply did not get seen, and as a writer that bothers me.

It’s not surprising, of course. Unless you have unlimited time on your hands, you are not going to scroll back through a year’s worth of articles. Even using the List feature here will only draw a few views to older stories. But since I am still in the afterglow of that one year/500 story mark, I thought I would share a few of my favorite stories from those first few months when I had absolutely no clue what I was doing (I still really don’t, but that’s a whole separate article).

It’s only fitting to start off with the first story I ever published here. It’s one that remains relevant for every writer, whether you’re just starting out or have been at it for decades.
