A Few Songs to Help You Through a Brutal Stretch of Writer’s Block

I’ve written before about how I believed that there was no such thing as writer’s block. I would even quote Neil Gaiman, surely one of the masters on the subject, who said:

“I don’t really believe in writer’s block, but I absolutely believe in getting stuck. The difference is one is imposed on you by the gods, and one is your own damn fault.”

Well, when you’re Neil Gaiman you can make a statement this bold and arrogant; when you’re me it only serves to anger the writing gods Neil so blithely dismisses. And while I haven’t incurred their wrath recently with stupid proclamations, it does seem that both they and my muse Ingrid (a surly Valkyrie who loves Swedish Death Metal) have abandoned me.

This writing desolation may not be apparent if you follow me on this site. I continue to publish articles on music, books, movies, and even the very occasional short story, and I’m thrilled about that; someday it may even pay a few of the bills. But when it comes to finishing the next novel I am stymied, and for most writers, whether they admit it even to themselves or not, the novel is the thing.
