18 Outstanding Songs About Planes and Trains and Automobiles, Oh My!
A Plethora of Pop writing prompt
I was deep into a hard-hitting piece of journalism destined to win me fame, fortune, a Pulitzer Prize, and a date with Kate Beckinsale. Then Pierce McIntyre announced a new writing prompt for Plethora of Pop, and any hope of finishing it went right out the window. That’s because a) I have the attention span of a cocker spaniel and b) songs about planes, trains, and automobiles is just too awesome a prompt to not jump on immediately.
Here’s how he described the challenge (and I’ll link to his article at the end). You can either write about transportation songs that you like (any mode of transport) or write a short fiction piece that includes song titles from songs that have something to do with transportation. Pretty straightforward, yet the possibilities are endless.
Knowing me, you might immediately think “great, an entire list of Springsteen songs about cars.” First of all, don’t be snarky. Second, I kind of thought the same thing until I actually started writing down titles. In the end, I had to expand my list beyond the thirteen songs Pierce came up with just to be able to keep all the Springsteen tunes. He doesn’t even get the leadoff spot, as that honor goes to one you know in the first 3 seconds:
